Citric acid as a food acid is one of the most important organic acids, used in various industries, especially food and medicine.
So that is used in the food industry more than 70%, pharmaceutical industry about 12%, chemical industry 11%, leather 4%, cosmetics and perfumery 2%, and 1% in other industries.
This acid uses in the food industry (soft drinks, jellies, desserts, canned food, chocolates and candies, essential oils, ice cream, biscuits, cakes, homemade sweets, marmalade, jam, synthetic resin) And in the pharmaceutical and health industries (emollients, blood storage, Detergent, ointments and creams making, cosmetics, washing and disinfection)  And in industry (fiber and tissue colors Beautification, the surface of the fibers cleaning, Halide resin, effervescent salts, acidifiers, antioxidants) and  Many other cases.
Now, in our country, two parallel projects are seeking production of citric acid but Unfortunately, none of them don’t have any production currently.
And total domestic demand funded through importation and This limits the consumption.
So that now, according to Islamic Republic of Iran Customs statistics, acid Importation into the country is about 20 thousand tons per year. But given the status of its consumption in the country, in case of domestic production, a wider range of consumers will find. (Now, none of our neighbors are producing citric acid?).
This Mainly edible acid,  Even in the Middle East and Africa, is emitted.
china is The world’s major producer of citric acid that  Has provided More than 60% of world consumption. Iran also imports almost all of its consumption from China.
